Fitness coaching for people with type 1 diabetes. From a coach who has it too.

I've had type 1 diabetes for most of my life, and I've represented Ireland in Olympic weightlifting. I coach people with type 1 to lose fat and get stronger, with a plan that takes your blood sugar into account from day one.

Who I work with

Sound familiar?

  • You've been told to “just be careful” with exercise, and nothing more useful than that.
  • Most coaches are great for most people. They've never had to plan a session around insulin.
  • You want to train hard, but a low mid-session has put you off more than once.
  • Fat loss advice never mentions blood sugar, so you're left to work it out yourself.

Your situation isn't simple. That doesn't mean your goals have to be smaller.

You need a plan that treats type 1 as part of the picture from the start.

How coaching works with type 1

Training, nutrition and blood sugar. Planned together.

Most fitness plans treat type 1 as a note at the bottom of the form. I treat it as part of the plan, because your training, your food and your blood sugar all affect each other.

We start by getting honest about where all three are right now, and the one thing that's holding you back most. Then we build from there.

What I do, and what your diabetes team does

  • I handle your training, your nutrition and the plan around them, and I adjust it at each check-in.
  • Your diabetes team stays in charge of your insulin and medication. I don't change doses.
  • We share what we see. If a pattern shows up around training or meals, you'll have something clear to bring to your team.

What you get

  • Comprehensive blood work at the start, so the plan is built on data
  • Training built around your week, at the gym or at home
  • Nutrition built around food you like
  • Regular check-ins, feedback and adjustments from me, not a junior coach
  • Progress you can see: photos, measurements, your weight trend and your strength

The Remove To Improve method

How coaching works, in three steps.

  1. Find what's holding you back

We go through your goals, your schedule, your training history and the food you enjoy, and we run comprehensive blood work at the start.

You get a clear picture of what's really in the way.

  2. Remove it. Build what works.

We cut what isn't helping. Then we build your training and nutrition around your goals and your real week, at the gym or at home.

You get a plan you can follow, and you know exactly what to do.

  3. Adjust as you go. Keep progressing.

Regular check-ins and honest feedback. When work gets busy or you travel, we adjust the plan. You don't start again.

You get results that keep coming, with someone in your corner.

Questions

Good questions to ask before you book.

Do you have type 1 diabetes yourself?
Yes. I've had type 1 for most of my life, so I know what it's like to plan training and food around it.
Will you adjust my insulin?
No. Your diabetes team stays in charge of your insulin and medication. I build and adjust your training and nutrition. If we spot a pattern around training or meals, you'll have something clear to raise with your team.
Can I lose fat with type 1 diabetes?
Yes. It takes the same things as it does for anyone else: the right training, the right food and consistency. The difference is that the plan has to account for your blood sugar, so you can train and eat consistently.
Do I need my doctor's sign-off before starting?
Tell me about your situation on the call. Depending on it, you may need clearance from your GP or diabetes team before starting. If coaching isn't the right fit just yet, I'll tell you.
What is the blood work for?
It means your plan is built on data, not guesswork. Comprehensive blood work at the start gives a detailed picture of a wide range of health markers. I use the results to inform changes to your nutrition, training and recovery. If a result needs medical attention, I'll flag it and recommend you see your GP.
How much does coaching cost?
There's more than one coaching option, and the right one depends on your goals and the level of support you need. On the call, once I understand what you're looking for, I'll tell you exactly what any option I recommend costs before you decide anything. There's no obligation to sign up.
